The addition of Atlas V production has caused major changes at ULA’s Decatur plant. The latest expansion, just beginning, is a $7.9 million structure next to the existing plant. Some Delta II production will move to the building, to clear more space for the Atlas V in the main facility. Maintenance operations and government overseers will also be in the new, 200-foot by 200-foot structure.
Per spokesman Doug Shores: “It is a free-standing building not directly connected to our main factory building. I am told, 100 yards or less from main factory. It will be located east of our skin, ring and dome area which is on the north end of the factory. The new building will be on the Red Hat Road side of our facility.”
